Map Places in the Letters

The map on this page shows all the places, using their modern name, mentioned in the Paston Letters and documents. Use the buttons down the left hand side of the map to show or hide each category. Clicking on a marker will show the name of the settlement or feature and the various spellings of the names in the letters. A further click on 'More Details' will show, below the map, all the letters which mention the place. This is work in progress and we are gradually identifying and clarifying aspects of the mapping, for instance when one marker is hidden behind another. There are also many further 17th century letters to add.
